Rest in Peace Dear Brittney

Sadly this is the last post for Brittney.  He passed away yesterday (April 29, 2013) at 9:25AM in his doctor’s office.

Both Carol and Bill Foster were with him at the end.  He was 19 1/2 years old and in frail health with diabetes, neurological disease, hyperthyroidism and several other health issues. He could no longer walk well and was suffering.  It was the most difficult decision Carol and I have every had to make.

Euthanasia took place at his Doctors office by a very caring and loving Dr. named Jennifer Willy.  We were holding him has he took his last breath and still have not fully recovered and I don’t know if we every will.

We were able to donate all his food, toys, furniture and other items to a needy group that takes care of lost and suffering cats here in Las Vegas.  They were very grateful and so were we as we were in shock.  Brittney went down hill so quickly but he was very old and frail.

Brittney was a wonderful cat.  He was so full of playfulness and life and he made our life so full of joy it will be difficult for us.  As a tribute to him, I found this poem and will post it now:

If I Should Grow Frail

If it should be that I grow frail and weak

And pain does keep me from my sleep

Then will you do what must be done

for this – is the last battle – can’t be won.

——————————————————–

You will be sad I understand

But don’t let grief then stay your hand

For on this day, more than the rest

Your love and friendship must stand the test.

————————————————————

We have had so many happy years,

You wouldn’t want me to suffer so.

When the time comes, please, let me go.

—————————————————–

Take me to where my needs they’ll tend,

Only, stay with me till the end.

And hold me firm and speak to me

Until my eyes no longer see.

——————————————————————

I know in time you will agree

It is a kindness you do to me.

Although my tail its last has waved,

From pain and suffering I have been saved.

————————————————————————

Don’t grieve that it must now be you

Who has to decide this thing to do.

We’ve been so close – we three – these years,

Don’t let your heart hold any tears.
